HISTORIC CRAFTSMAN UPDATE

Located in the historic Portland neighborhood of Irvington, the clients have impeccable taste, and a penchant for high heat, experimental cooking. They were looking for a complete kitchen revamp that allowed them to have an airy culinary hub with better connection to the rest of the house, as well as a more structured back entry and clear visual relationship to their charming, wild backyard meadow.

The beautiful home is a historic landmark in the neighborhood, so the goal was to be sensitive the architectural character while updating the interior to reflect the function and aesthetics the clients desired. Larger modifications were made to accomplish this, including relocating the basement stair and adding a small powder room. A new mudroom and back entrance procession was part of the plan, and a library with periodical display and room for tchotchkes rounded out the refresh. Now, the clients have a layout that is functional and beautiful and offers a more deliberate connection with their outdoor spaces.

This project was completed as part of Haley Wallace’s work at Emerick Architects.
